These spooky-cute jars glow on the porch steps for trick-or-treaters and last for years. Tissue paper and decoupage glue give a stained-glass glow, and faces can be cut from black vinyl with a cutting machine or from black paper by hand.
Step by step
- Clean the jars and let them dry completely.
- Tear tissue paper into small pieces. Brush decoupage glue onto a section of the jar, lay tissue over it, then brush more glue on top. Overlap pieces until the jar is covered.
- For mummy jars, wrap strips of gauze around the jar, gluing as you go, and leave a gap for the eyes.
- Let the jars dry fully, then add a second top coat of glue if you want extra shine.
- Cut jack-o'-lantern faces from black vinyl (or black paper glued on) and apply to the orange jars. Stick googly eyes into the mummy gap.
- Drop an LED tea light into each jar and line them up along the steps or windowsill.
Use LED tea lights only. Tissue paper, glue and gauze are flammable, and luminaries often end up near costumes.
